Bottles, Waiting, Growing

Day 113
Weight: 5 lbs 2 oz

Five pounds! Whoohoo!

Dr. Arrington's trick of pulling the feeding tube is working! Samuel has been taking his bottles and seems to be getting the hang of it. I wouldn't say that he loves every minute of it....but I'm hoping that desire will grow over time.

Samuel's hernia surgery has been set for next Thursday. I have mixed feelings about it. I'm glad we are getting it done now because the doctors and nurses in the NICU know him well. If we came back to do it, he would have to be admitted to a different area of the hospital. I'm a little sad that we will have to stay here longer (Dr. Arrington mentioned that we could have gone home at the beginning of next week.) I'm also nervous about the surgery because they will have to put Samuel back on the ventilator to do it. Sometimes babies come back from surgery off the ventilator, and sometimes they don't. I would greatly appreciate your prayers....
that the surgery will go well - with no complications
that God will guide the hands of the doctors
that Samuel will come back from surgery off of the ventilator
that he will begin to take his bottle again easily
that they will not do any further damage to his vocal cords with the ventilator tube.

Right now we are practicing the bottles, waiting, and growing.

  1. Hi Sarah! I am catching up on your posts. I've been to workshops this week and then my brother had to have emergency surgery.

I am glad to hear Samuel has contiued to do well, but sad to hear that they are going to have to do the surgery. Continuing to pray for Samuel and looking forward to seeing you on Sunday.

  6. Hi Michael and Sarah,

As you know we are constantly monitoring your fb profile and the blog. What type of hernia does Samuel have? Remember that you are always in our thoughts and prayers. We love you so much.
