Three

Oh boy...the boy has gotten big.

Big enough to know what he wants.  When he wants.  How he wants.  Where he wants.

Samuel is three years old today and, for the first time, I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how a whole year has gone by since we last celebrated his special day.  It can't have been a year...

That's what I was saying to myself three days before his birthday party.  Since I had done nothing in preparation.  I had procrastinated this birthday party to an extreme...dragging my feet with the construction vehicle theme that I knew would appeal to Samuel.  Really?  Do we have to do a vehicle themed party again?

And let's face it, I've been a little preoccupied trying to adjust to life at home with two kids.  Two kids with RSV.  Yes, that's right.  I'll save that story for another post.

Thankfully, the grandmothers came to our rescue!  They bought construction themed decorations, I planned the cake, and voila!  Instant birthday party.  If it weren't for my mother, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law, the party simply wouldn't have happened.  Really.  I didn't even hang the decorations.

Ordinarily I would be severely disappointed with myself...since creative, handmade party decor has been my M.O. for the past several years.  But this year I decided to cut myself some slack.  A small, quiet party with immediate family was exactly what we needed and Samuel was none the worse for it.  In fact, I was grateful we kept it small because he feeling pretty puny...and likely contagious as well.  Booooo RSV.

Among the presents, Samuel received a trampoline and a t-ball set.  Warm weather, we're ready for you!

Little Sis enjoyed the party too since she was passed from one pair of eager hands to the next.

Today, on his actual birthday, we had a therapy-free day to spend at home together.  He blew out the candle on his blueberry muffin (I daydream about the day he will want to eat cake on his birthday) and we opened a few more presents this afternoon.  When anyone wished him a happy birthday, he promptly replied with, "Happy birthday to you too!"  I guess it was a special day for everyone!

This boy.  What can I say?  We are beyond blessed.
